Work Samples The headings below illustrate a few examples of KnowACE ( Thomas Garrod) Flash design and development. Since these were created, KnowACE has moved to ActionScript AS3, OOP, and Flex for greater development efficiency. Thomas and Robert also use Captivate and Articulate 09 for product development not shown here).

If you wonder about the lack of audio, keep in mind that audio (words) impeades comprehension reading comprehension. We do not process two language channels simultaneously.

Chunking with Flash and ActionScript: Learning can be difficult. Chunking is a form of metacognitive support that allows the learner to access content in manageable blocks. Chunking retains "big-picture" context without information overload.

This learning asset includes a tremendous amount of data in just 300 by 300 pixels. Mouse over each process image to learn about role and process. Click Scroll to advance the process timeline.

For another example of chunking, see Project Management.

Change Management: This file is an effort to win associates over to new methods.

Hands-on Learning: The example below was created for classroom discussion. The blue line represents power supply and the red bars are circuit breakers, virtual and physical. Virtual circuit breakers are software managed. On an aircraft, virtual circuit breakers are always open (power on) by default, so if a worker depends on a virtual circuit breaker to disable power to machinery, they are at risk. This example illustrates the various power configurations. If circuits are open, machinery will run. When an aircraft powers down and back up again, all virtual circuits are set to defalut position (open). Use this illustration to determine the best strategy for preventing power-up during equipment maintenance.

Scenarios for Deeper Learning: We develop judgment through experience. Mistakes are instructive, but expensive and even painful. In scenario exercises, we offer a safe environment for learning through experience. We use role-play situations to simulate a real environment. Class room role play is time consuming. Asynchronous eLearning allows all the time the learner desires.

This learning tool can be revised for any scenario.

Read the scenario and the question in the file below, then click on the circular buttons to explore. Click on the Next button to advance to the next scenario for this subject.
